About IIT JAM Exam



iit jam (joint admission test for masters) is a national level entrance exam for getting admission in master of science program in respective IIT, NIT,GFTI and IISC. Exam is conducted by respective IITs and IISC. IIT JAM 2025 is going to conducted by IIT DELHI.

General Eligibility Criteria 

 1. Educational Qualification:

    a) Bachelor’s Degree- Candidates must have a bachelor's degree.

    b) Minimum Marks-General/OBC-NCL/EWS category candidates should have at least 55% aggregate marks or 5.5 out of 10 CGPA/CPI in their qualifying degree. SC/ST/PwD category candidates should have at least 50% aggregate marks or 5.0 out of 10 CGPA/CPI.

   c) Nationality- Indian nationals, as well as foreign nationals, are eligible to apply.

   d) Age limit- There is no age limit for appearing in IIT JAM.


2.) Special Eligibility Criteria For Getting Admission In M.Sc Programs:

Each M.Sc program might have additional specific eligibility criteria, which typically include the following:-

   a) Mathematics: Typically, a bachelor's degree with Mathematics as a subject for at least two years/four semesters.

   b) Physics: A bachelor’s degree with Physics for at least two years/four semesters and Mathematics for at least one year/two semesters.

   c) Chemistry: A bachelor’s degree with Chemistry for at least two years/four semesters and Mathematics for at least one year/two semesters.

   d) Geology: A bachelor’s degree with Geology for three years/six semesters and any two subjects among Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biological Science.

   e) Biotechnology: A bachelor’s degree with Biology, Biotechnology, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Agriculture as one of the subjects.

   f) Economics: Typically, a bachelor’s degree with Mathematics or Statistics as one of the subjects.


Additional Criteria

  a) Final Year Students:- Candidates appearing in the final year of their qualifying degree can also apply. They must provide proof of passing the qualifying degree with the required eligibility by the specified deadline.

  b) Reservations: Reservations for various categories (SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS, and PwD) are as per Government of India rules.

Exam Date And Application Form

The application form is available on the official website. candidate may begin online form the second week of september and candidate have one month time to fill the examination form.
every year exam is held in first week of february on sunday.


IIT JAM 2025 Exam Pattern 

Mode of examination is online. There are 60 questions asked in the exam.Questions are divided in three sections.
Section A contain 30 MCQ (Multiple Choice Question) questions. Question 1 to 10 carry 1 mark and 11 to 30 carry 2 marks.

Section B contain 10 MSQ (Multiple Selected Question). Each question carry 2 marks with 0.66 negative marks.

Section C contain 20 NAT ( Numerical Answer Type) question. In which 41 to 50 question carry 1 mark and 51 to 60 question carry 2 marks.

Note- Each 1 mark type incorrect question deduct 0.33 mark and Each 2 marks type incorrect question deduct 0.66 mark.


IIT JAM 2025 CUT-OFF

IIT JAM 2025 cut-off are the minimum marks set by the conducting body and candidate must obtain this minimum marks to clear the examination. Every year cut-off change according to toughness of paper and depending upon number of candidate appeared for the examination.

Last year IIT JAM 2024 cut-off for GENERAL category is given below :-

BIOTECHNOLOGY(BT)- 44.6 marks 

CHEMISTRY(CH)- 25.38 marks 

PHYSICS(PH)-19.63 marks 

MATHEMATICS(MH)- 11.22 marks 

ECONOMICS(EN)- 24.64 marks 

MATHEMATICAL STATISTIC(MS)- 23.03 marks

GEOLOGY(GG)- 33.09 marks

PREPARATION AND STRATEGY

Those student whose basics is strong , i mean who thoroughly read class 12th or B.SC and have better understanding of problem solving they can easily crack this exam in 7-8 months.
A average student can also crack the exam using right guidance and proper roadmap.
